GCPA is a non-profit organization officially approved by the Ontario government in August 2017 and is a performing arts group funded by the Ontario government. It officially joined the Guelph Dance Association in September 2017.
GCPA is composed of several very active performing arts groups in Guelph, that are active all year round. It is a non-political, non-religious, united and inclusive performing arts and cultural group.
The groups comprising the GCPA have been dedicated to enriching the amateur cultural life of the Chinese in Guelph and promoting Chinese culture. Over the years, the GCPA has participated in the Guelph Chinese Spring Festival Gala, Riverside Park Multicultural Festival, Christmas Party, New Year’s party, and performances for the elderly in senior homes and other charity performances.
During the Spring Festival of 2017, our groups participated in several well-known concerts and TV shows, such as “Happy Spring Festival”, the Toronto Chinese-Star Spring Festival Gala, and Ontario New Year’s Day Gala.
GCPA has been creative and has designed and played many performance in the past years, such as the children’s dances: “Little Dream”, “Everyone Congrats”, “I Also Want to be a Soldier”, “I Want to Fly”, etc. Adults’ dances are “Flying Fairy”, the Uighur dance “Set Off Your Hijab”, the Tibetan dance “Laundry Song”, the classical dance “Plum Tears”, and the men’s group dance “Trackers Love.”
In Canada’s 150th anniversary celebration, GCPA’s square dance group participated in “Singing Waterfall”, “Toronto Flash” and the first square dance in Southwest Ontario show. The Square Dance Group was only formed at at the end of April and delivered a beautiful performance in early June for the first time at the Guelph Multicultural Festival. The performers’ talent and their beautiful costumes impressed the audience.
GCPA will devote itself to the propagation and development of Chinese traditional culture such as vocality, instrumental music and dance. It welcomes all Chinese in the Guelph community who love culture and art to join us to practice her/his artistic temperament here and show her/his artistic talents!
